From the writings of Andrew Murray . . .
When prayers are unanswered, the trial of faith comes. We must pray consistently, fervently, persistently. The sooner I learn to forget myself in the desire that He may be glorified, the richer will be the blessing that prayer will bring to myself. No one ever loses by what he sacrifices to the Father. In times of trouble, God’s trusting child may say:
First: God brought me here; it is by His will I am in this strait place: in that will I rest.
Next: He will keep me here in His love, and give me grace in this trial to behave as His child.
Then: He will make the trial a blessing, teaching me the lessons He intends me to learn, and working in me the grace He means to bestow.
Last: In His good time He can bring me out again --- how and when, He knows.
I am here by God’s appointment, in His keeping, under His training, for His time.
“Call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify Me.”
(Psalm 50:15)

Is it not evident that, despite the Resurrection, if there had been no Ascension we would be lost? If the Father had not been fully satisfied with all His Son did for us wouldn’t it all be rendered null and void? Would we not be forever undone, without help and without hope, if Jesus had not entered heaven on our behalf, celebrated with hymns of victory? If Christ has not ascended for us, where else could we go to find the Father’s welcoming arms? There would be no high priest to represent us and intercede for us at the throne. We would be stripped of free, clean access into God’s presence. There would be no one preparing a home for our eternal dwelling. Our lives, as well as the whole universe, would be without a mediator to symphonize all things with the will of God. Pentecost would have been permanently postponed, and so believers would remain forever devoid of the Spirit’s indwelling power. The promises meant to be Jesus’ inheritance, to be shared with all who belong to Him, would be locked up and shelved. Above all, Jesus’ very best gift, His saving efforts for us, would be struck in the past, as it were – where He was last seen, visiting with disciples after exiting the tomb, but left at the fringes of history. --- David Bryant

Leftovers – What do I do with my leftovers? I go to church, I read the Bible. I get spiritually fed. But what do I do with my leftovers? Do I share it with those in the world who need Jesus? Do I reach out without fear of being rejected? Do I see the people of this world in need of a Savior? Am I willing to give them my leftovers? God sent Michael James, Sr., Alabama preacher, into my life to help me see that I have been hoarding my leftovers. Leftovers that are so desperately needed in this lost and dying world. Leftovers that would feed those who are hungry. Leftovers that God does not want me to keep to myself, but to give away to those I might meet. To be willing to strike up a conversation and ask them if they believe in God – and give them my leftovers so that they too, can be filled. So as I feast on God’s Word I will be sure to drink deeply so that I have plenty of leftovers to share. --- L. A. Benak

Wednesday, July 11th – Bible Study and Prayer Time – 6:30 pm – “There is a place where thou canst touch the eyes of blinded men to instant, perfect sight; There is a place where thou canst say, “Arise” to dying captives, bound in chains of night; There is a place where thou canst reach the store of hoarded gold and free it for the Lord; There is a place - - - upon some distant shore --- Where thou canst send the worker and the Word. Where is that secret place --- dost thou ask, “Where?” O soul, it is the secret place of prayer!” ---- Alfred Lord Tennyson
