The Gospel accounts tell us that after His resurrection, Jesus spent some time with His disciples and then appeared to numerous others.  Among those blessed ones to whom He appeared were two on the road to Emmaus.  To these two, Jesus didn’t appeal to the fact that He was now resurrected.  He appealed to the Bible as His source of authority.  He didn’t say, “Hey, look at My glorious resurrection body!” but He directed their attention to the very Word of God.  Then Jesus said to them, “You foolish people!  You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures.  Wasn’t it clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before entering His glory?”  Then Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. – Luke 24:25 – 27.   And then He proved He was not a ghost by eating bread and drinking wine with them – communing with them.
If the risen Lord first appealed to the Bible to convince these disciples to believe in Him, we also have a good incentive to trust the credibility of these manuscripts and scrolls that are now translated into what we know as the Bible.  Jesus was willing to submit Himself, even as the resurrected Lord of the universe, to the words that are revealed in this book.  In doing so, He taught us something.  He taught us that God’s Word is true and dependable.  Again, if Jesus is God – if He is risen – that means something!  It means that the Bible must be right.  It must be trustworthy or else God Himself is a liar.  And we know that’s not true. --- 10 Reasons Why You Should Trust The Bible --- corechristianity.com

“Jesus’ opinion of God’s Word is the number one reason to trust it.” --- Kristen Wetherell, unlockingthebible.org
Never Too Late:  On the way to heal Jairus’s desperately ill daughter, Jesus did the unthinkable: He paused (Mark 5:30).  He stopped to identify who touched Him, and then spoke gently with the woman.  You can imagine what Jairus was thinking: There’s no time for this, my daughter is dying!  And then, his worst fears came true --- Jesus appeared to have delayed too long and his daughter passed away (v. 35).  But Jesus turned to Jairus and offered a word of encouragement: “Don’t be afraid; just believe” (v. 36).  Then, calmly ignoring the mockery of onlookers, Christ spoke to Jairus’s daughter and she came back to life!  He revealed that He can never be too late.  Time can’t limit what He’s able to do and when He chooses to do it.  How often do we feel like Jairus, thinking that God was simply too late to accomplish what we had hoped for. But with God, there’s no such thing.  He’s never too late in fulfilling His good and merciful work in our lives.-- Peter Chin, Our Daily Bread

Wednesday, July 10th – Bible Study and Prayer Time – 6:30 pm – “In all states of dilemma or of difficulty, prayer is an available source.  The ship of prayer may sail through all temptations, doubts and fears, straight up to the throne of God; and though she may be outward bound with only griefs, and groans, and sighs, she shall return freighted with a wealth of blessings!” --- Charles Spurgeon

Another factor helping us trust the Bible is the life-changing impact the Bible has had for thousands of years. The Bible has withstood the attempts of kings, dictators, and whole societies to abolish it and still remains the top-selling book of all time. Its words contain a hope not found in any other religious writing and has transformed the lives of millions. Other world religions claim loyal adherence, but the glue that holds most of their faithful is fear, intimidation, or human effort. The Bible promises what no other book does: life, hope, and purpose as a gift from Almighty God. Its words have transformed murderers, tyrants, and nations because the Bible resonates as truth in the deepest part of the human soul (Ecclesiastes 3:11). The Bible may be rejected, hated, or ignored, but its impact on those who heed it cannot be discounted. --- www.gotquestions.org

Wednesday, July 10th – Bible Study and Prayer Time – 6:30 pm – “Every growth of spiritual life, from the first tender shoot until now, has been the work of the Holy Spirit . . . The only way to more life is the Holy Spirit.  You will not even know that you want more unless He works in you to desire it . . . The Spirit of God must come and make the letter alive, transfer it to your heart, set it on fire, and make it burn within you, or else its divine force and majesty will be hid from your eyes . . . Prayer is the creation of the Holy Spirit.  We cannot do without prayer, and we cannot pray without the Holy Spirit.” --- Charles Spurgeon

“Independence is something most people cherish.  Not that we feel it’s wrong to help each other, but our self-esteem can sink if we feel overly reliant on others. There is an independence, though, that we might not find if we’re too convinced of our self-sufficiency.  It’s the unparalleled spiritual freedom of depending fully on God.” --- True Independence: Dependence on God
