To the Church in Elk Rapia
Delivered from Wrath

10) And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
King James Version (KJV)

Outline

We just finished singing "Til on that cross as Jesus died the wrath of God was satisfied, For Every sin on Him was laid here in the death of Christ i live". The wrath of God is something we don't want to discuss in this day because we think it make our God look bad. Many say that they cannot believe in a God of wrath and so we shrink from discussing it. Yet Paul told the church in Thessalonica that they were being delivered from the wrath to come. What should that mean to us today?

A) The Rejection of God's wrath
  1. The God of the New Testament is the same as the God of the Old Testament

B) The Reasonableness of God's wrath
  1. It reflects God's love
  2. It reflects God's salvation
  3. It reflects God's perfection

C) The Reason for God's wrath
  1. Man's Disobedience

D) The Restraint of God's wrath
  1. God is longsuffering

E) The Reality of God's wrath
  1. It is coming!

F) The Rescue of God's wrath
     Romans 3:24,25

       24) Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

       25) Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his
              righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

       Romans 5:9

9) Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through
           him.

Big Idea:

The reality of God's wrath makes every
other aspect of our relationship with him more real.

To the Church in Elk Rapia...
The Impact of a Faithful Life

5) For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

6) And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.

7) So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.

8) For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.

9) For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

10) And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Outline

In the past few months we have heard the term legacy often. From a presidential candidate to an outgoing president, the term legacy has been used repeatedly. After almost 2000 years a legacy has been left by a church in Thessalonica that still has profound merit today. Let's continue the legacy.

A) How we live... vs.5
  1. Our words must match our actions!
B) Can influence how others live... vs. 6
  1. Imitating us
  2. Imitating our Lord

C) Which can influence how others may live... vs. 7,8
  1. Ensamples= model
  2. Sounded = to reverberate

D)
Resulting in others knowing about... vs. 9,10
  1. Work of faith - Turned to God from idols
  2. Labor if love - Serve the Living and true God
  3. Patience of hope - Wait for his Son

                                                                           Big Idea:

To leave an eternal legacy, live for God!

Unto the Church in Elk Rapia (Part 2)

1) Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2) We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;

3) Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

4) Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

Outline

If I called you and told you i was in Elk Rapia what would you be thinking in your mind? If I told you I was in church what would run through your thoughts? If I told you I was in the hospital what image would that produce? What about being in the military? As we begin the study in Thessalonians what will be in our minds?

B) Our response towards one another vs. 2
  1. Thanking
  2. Praying
C) Our responsibility with one another vs. 3
  1. Work of faith
  2. Labour of love
  3. Patience of hope
D) Our recognition of one another vs. 4
  1. Know -
  2. Election -

                                                                       Big Idea:

                   It is not what we are in but who we are in!
