Good men agree and disagree on this event and the similar (same?) event found in Matthew 4 and Mark 1. Since Luke is a man given to details I believe these are the same event but elaborated on by Luke. Whatever your preference, the results are the same in all three records. What are the results?

It may not happen immediately
John 1:35 ff.
And may be apprehensively
But does happen obediently
Is often amazingly
And not without humility

But compassionately
And will be purposefully
As you follow me!
     A) A soldier who follows his commander
        B) A slave who follows his master
          C) A person who follows wise counsel
            D) To obey government
              E) A teacher's arguments
